Ropes - Why do the Scouts have them?

The Rope Segment used to be considered a part of our Troop's uniform many years ago, but fell by the wayside...

Then about 2012, the PLC (our Youth Leaders) decided that they wanted to start having the Rope Segment be a part of the uniform again. So the Leaders checked various types of Ropes available from different stores & finally chose 7 mm Climbing Cord from Next Adventure in Portland. The first pieces started at 4 ft in length, but seemed a little short at times. So the next batch of Cords were cut at 5 ft long.

Here is the info on the latest batch of Ropes:

Plant Identification Signs

.
Trevor wanted to do a Project for the Chartering Organization of our Troop, Milwaukie Presbyterian Church.

The church owns all the property behind the rear parking lot that goes down toward Kellogg Lake. This area is known as the Outdoor Sanctuary. The church has been working for several years to remove invasive species of plants from all of this property.

Raised Flower Beds for Horticultural Therapy

.
Joshua worked with Tara, the Horticultural Therapist from Willamette View. Tara's idea was to have some Raised Flower Beds for residents with limited mobility to use. Residents that have a garden or flower bed to tend are more active as a result. Tara asked for 19 Raised Bed Planters -- 3 being single Planter Bed frames & 8 being double Planter Bed frames. 5 of them at 'wheelchair height' & the rest at 'standing height' -- to be placed in an unused patio at the facility. Joshua took measurements to use for the 2 varied heights.

Operation Winter Storm

.
Matt chose to do his project for a school that he used to attend. Through the years, there were improvements made at the school that resulted in water runoff problems during the periods of heavy rain. Much of the water drainage would flow together & end up backing up toward the school. Eventually flowing down the stairs & into the downstairs hallways & classrooms. These areas have suffered damage a couple of different times in the past several years.

Eagle Court of Honor - Who decides the Details of it?

An Eagle Court of Honor is completely planned & hosted by the Eagle Scout's family. Before planning the Location & Date though, please wait for the 'official word' to come back from National to know that your Eagle Scout Candidate has become an Eagle Scout.
