Anya's Eagle project was to collect donations of feminine hygiene products to be donated to a food pantry. These products aren’t covered by SNAP or WIC and a lot of food pantries don’t offer them. Anya wanted to collect enough donations to last a food pantry three months and hoped to find a sponsor who could continue the donations after her project was completed.
Anya worked with the West Linn Food Pantry, who rarely had enough feminine hygiene products to offer them to the public. She surveyed the patrons of the food pantry to determine the amount needed for a 3-month timeframe.
Anya directed her volunteers to planned areas to go door-to-door with bags & flyers asking for donations. A few days later, the volunteers returned to pick up bags of donations that had been left outside for the scouts. Anya’s group ended up collecting more products than her original goal. Enough donations were collected to last the food pantry for about 7-8 months.
Anya was also able to find a sponsor to keep donations coming to the West Linn Food Pantry. She contacted PERIOD.org, which was founded by two 16-year-olds. They donate feminine hygiene products to 49 states and over 50 countries. They were very excited to work with the food pantry and will continue to help them for years to come.
