Daniel wanted to do a Project for the Chartering Organization of our Troop, Milwaukie Presbyterian Church.
The church owns all the property behind the rear parking lot that goes down toward Kellogg Lake. The church was (& still is) working to remove invasive species of plants from all of this property. A big part of the problem was the limited access to the area.
There is also a peninsula that extends into the lake that needed a trail for access. A 30-36" wide trail (508' long) was cleared from a small creek bed to the end of the peninsula. There were some pieces of a 'crude' path in sections that were entirely overgrown by blackberry vines & English ivy. (The rest of the path had to be created from scratch.) A very simple foot bridge was also asked for to get over the small creek bed near the beginning of the peninsula.
As the trail was cleared, 4-5" of shredder chips were put down on the trail to prevent plant regrowth & maintain a natural look. Then a 'basic' foot bridge was added to allow for easier crossing of the creek bed.
This Bridge & Trail have been very useful to the workers who have been working to remove the invasive plant species.
